Devi buys Sweden's first commercial biodiversity credits

Sustainability isn't only about climate. Biological diversity – the wealth of species, habitats and ecosystems – is just as decisive for a healthy planet. Devi Group has therefore chosen to lead the way and become a proud buyer of Sweden's first commercial biodiversity credits.

What are biodiversity credits?

A biodiversity credit is a way to fund concrete measures that preserve and strengthen biological diversity. Instead of only offsetting emissions, the money is directed toward protecting habitats and endangered species – an area that has long lacked clear market mechanisms.

Orsa Besparingsskog and the pasque flower

Devi's credits are tied to an initiative in Orsa Besparingsskog, where the work aims to preserve biological diversity and protect endangered species – including the protected pasque flower. The credits were developed by Qarlbo Biodiversity and purchased through Treebula, Sweden's only fully independent digital marketplace for forest owners. By supporting the project, Devi helps ensure that valuable natural assets remain for generations to come.

The companies behind the initiative

Orsa Besparingsskog was founded in 1879 to create prosperity for the local community and its owners, and still acts as an engine for continued positive development in the area. Its landholding covers around 75,000 hectares, of which 60,000 hectares are productive forest land.

Treebula is Sweden's only fully independent digital marketplace for forest owners. Since its founding in 2017 the vision has remained the same: a more profitable and active forestry where all of the forest's values are given room.
